The homework will consist of the following:
- Define Chapter Vocabulary Terms with advance readings of sections inside the chapters.*
- Review Lecture Notes from class while reading the sections to gain a better understanding of concepts and topics.
*Students will be assigned reading assignments with the chapter vocabulary terms for homework.
Why students need to read before each chapter?
1. It helps make the most of class time.
When students read ahead of time, they are more likely to understand the organization of the lecture. Students will be able to figure out what is important during lectures.
2. It helps students understand the topic.
Reading beforehand can help a student focus their attention on filling gaps in their understanding by paying more attention during some parts of the lecture and by asking questions.
3. It helps students participate during lectures.
The class requires participation and answering questions through participation during lectures and class discussions. It is easier for students to participate when they know the topic. Reading beforehand helps students understand the topic and have the time to consider their perspective and opinions.
4. It helps students show they understand.
Reading before class lets students show that they have read and they can ask intelligent questions that demonstrates they are prepared for the material that will be covered in the lecture.
5. It helps students show respect and strong work ethics.
Reading ahead of time shows respect for the instructor and interest in the class. It also shows strong work ethics that lead to academic success. Students that read ahead are usually students that do not blame the instructor or the school for not learning anything in school. Students that read ahead are students that are hungry for knowledge so they do not wait for knowledge, they go after it so they succeed academically in school.
