Course Description: U.S. History is a required course for Juniors (11th grade) students. The course is a graduation requirement for a high school diploma in the State of California. The State standards provide both the framework and pace of this class. The course is designed to provide students the knowledge and understanding of the history of the United States.
The course examines the major turning points in American history beginning with the events leading up to the American Revolution, the origins of the constitution, Manifest Destiny, the Civil War and Reconstruction, World War I, the Great Depression, World War II, the growth of the United States as a world power, the Cold War and the struggle to achieve class, ethnic, racial, and gender equality.
